Experience

Throughout my years as an International Scholar at the University of Florida, I have partaken in many activities and opportunities in order to globalize my education and academic career. From working with students, international and domestic alike, to studying different languages, I have gained many global perspectives.

The Undergraduate Linguistics Society

Vice President 22-23 / President 23-24

The Undergraduate Linguistics Society is a student-run organization within the Department of Linguistics at UF. Our goal is to create a safe and comfortable learning environment for budding linguists and those interested in learning about the importance of language in humans' lives. During my time as Vice President and President, I've experienced many students find a community in which they could learn and meet other students who shared similar interests. Based on students' interests, we cover topics such as cultural linguistics, language ideology and power, and lavender linguistics (LGBTQIA+ Language).

UF Navigators

U.S Student Mentor

With this program, I was paired with an international student to serve as her mentor. My job was to help her get accustomed to American culture and life as a student at UF. I helped her join clubs such as the Tennis club and participated in cultural exchanges in which I learned about her German culture and traditions while teaching her about African American culture.

CLAS Ambassador

Student Ambassador

As a College of Liberal Arts and Sciences ambassador, not only did I have the honor of representing one of UF's largest colleges, I also got to represent its career and professional development program "Beyond120". The program helps students gain professional development skills and gives them access to opportunities to kickstart their careers or pique their career interests ensuring they are successful after college. As an ambassador I got to help manage events hosted for students to Gian advice or experience and represent the CLAS student body and their academic and professional desires.

Learning Arabic + ASL

Language Learner

One of the most important aspects of internationalizing one's education is learning new languages. During my first semester at UF I studied Beginning Arabic 1. For our final project we had to put together a blog showcasing our progress learning the language and how to properly use it within context.

I also studied American Sign Language. This sequence was useful in not only teaching me ASL but also making me aware of the culture of those who communicate using signed languages.

Experiential Scholar

Program Participant

The Experiential Scholar's program was offered to Student by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Beyond120 program. The program provided a guide for students to complete different tasks relating to experiential learning. After earning so many points by completing these tasks, students were recognized with an end of the year ceremony.
